Max completed a Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (with First Class Honours) at the University of Auckland. During his studies, he gained practical experience working as a research assistant and subsequently as a student engineer for an environmental consultancy.

Max developed his passion for water and the environment while growing up in the Waitakere Ranges to the west of Auckland, where the heavy rain and fast streams play a major role in day-to-day life. This gives him an enthusiasm for his work and an eagerness to explore new aspects of water engineering.
